Fairfield County Sports Commission Assets
The Fairfield County Sports Commission is a 501c3 non-profit organization that promotes fitness education awareness and personal development through sports, while also supporting a healthy, active lifestyle. The Commission, with the exception of the executive director position, is an all-volunteer group and provides a one-stop resource for the entire sports community throughout the county.
For Fairfield County corporations and businesses, the Sports Commission provides a far-reaching vehicle to support a healthy, active lifestyle for their employees and their families who live and work in the area. While in the formative stages of developing programs to give back to the community, the Commission can work closely with all groups to meet their company giving goals. It also is a valuable resource for individuals that are sports supporters and enthusiasts
Its vast resources include:
-Serves 15 communities in Fairfield County, each with a local sports commission rep
-Owns strong relationships with youth organizations and schools in each town
-Has the ability to reach more than 110,000 school age children
-Is currently developing and supporting programs that give back to the community, based on fitness awareness education. Will be part of the region’s Youth Violence Task Force.
-Has a fitness committee comprised of professionals in areas of physical training, nutrition and education to create programs that can be used by school systems, after school programs, youth organization
-Created a high school advisory committee to address issues related to roles of student athletes, parents and coaches
-Currently working in partnership with ESPN to develop the cable network’s Play Your Way after school program
-Plays a key role in supporting sporting events throughout the county at all levels. This effort allows for county residents to participate, attend, and volunteer at meaningful activities.
-Marketing and promotional expertise through its board and advisory board members.
-Wide-ranging contacts with the media throughout the entire county and state.
-Corporate contacts at senior levels for many major companies throughout the county.
-Has an advisory board of celebrated athletes and sports personalities that are available for educational sports clinics and speaking engagements.
-A speaker’s bureau to provide access to prominent current and former local and national athletes.
-Access to premier tickets for sporting events and major entertainment events throughout the metropolitan area and nationally.
-Resource for sports memorabilia for auctions and raffles.
-Association and contacts with major sporting events in metropolitan area as well as all professional teams and arenas, pro leagues and sports television industry.
-Close ties with the sports marketing firms throughout the area.
-Maintains strong relationships with all of the universities in the county.
-Relationships with local and state government officials
-The Commission’s Sports Night fund raising event has begun to generate funds for the creation, support and implementation of children’s fitness-related programs. The event honors 15 local Sports Persons of the Year in the communities it serves, and honorees for its Hall of Fame.
-Has created the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame, which is housed at University of Connecticut - Stamford campus, where Commission will be working with UConn on developing educational tie-ins
